New Element on Periodic Table has been Named

An element that was discovered 13 years ago and was officially added to the periodic table a few weeks ago, element 112 finally has been given a name.

Its been named Copernicium by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), and been given the symbol Cp in the honour of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus who deduced that the planets revolved around the sun, and finally refuted the belief that the Earth was the centre of the Universe.  Copernicus was born in 1473 in Torun, Poland

Under IUPAC rules, the team were not allowed to name the element after a living person.
