Majority of UK's Dairy Products to Come From Overseas

By 2030, it is predicted that 53% of UK's dairy products will be imported if the production of milk continues to decline at the current rate according to a new report from DairyCo.

UK milk production has fallen by some 3% in 2009 to 12.8bn litres and this is the lowest level for 40 years.  This could reduce to 7.5bn litres in 2030 unless confidence improves, says DairyCo.

The above findings may also help explain the increased number of imports as between 1997 and 2007 the UK has moved from a position of a net exporter of dairy products, exporting 367 million litres more than it imported, to the position of a net importer of dairy products, importing 1,126 million litres more than it exports.
