apetito, a Queen’s Awards for Enterprise winner for Sustainable Development, manufacture a range of frozen prepared meals at their Canal Road site for supply to care homes, local authorities, hospitals as well as direct to the home via meals on wheels and  Wiltshire Farm Foods. The site wanted to support their continued growth and environmental leadership. apetito sought technical assistance from MSA to develop a strategy plan for improvements.

MSA supported apetito through a range of different studies which began with a 5-day process audit in the production areas to assess scope for internal improvements with many opportunities identified.  We then undertook a detailed feasibility study to assess end of pipe treatment technologies.  This included both a technical and commercial assessment of all viable options which was supported with lab scale jar testing and modelling work.  We also helped the site to negotiate an updated trade effluent discharge consent with the help of Water2Business to ensure this was future proofed to allow for expansion.

A Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Plant was the recommended option and MSA were commissioned to support the site through the design and tendering phases of the project. The project was successfully installed by FLI CAP in an existing building and contains screening, balancing and a dissolved air flotation (DAF) plant with full automated control. The plant has achieved the project objectives and has produced an effluent quality that is consistently within the consented limits.
