Kerry Group

Tenbury Wells, United Kingdom

The Kerry Ingredients and Flavours site at Tenbury Wells produce a range of flavoured syrups for the beverage market, fruit sauces for yoghurt and biscuit manufacturing, and ice cream sauces.
Treatment capacity
0 m3/day

Wastewater generated on site is pre-treated at the Tenbury Wells site before dischargining the the Severn Trent Water network under a Trade Effluent Discharge consent.

On site Storage Capacity
0 m3
Three new storage tanks constructed in glass re-enforced plastic (GRP) were installed with a capacity of 110m3 each.
Footprint
0 m2

The plant was installed within the exisitng effluent plant footprint, requiring extensivve design to maximise every inch of available space.

THE CHALLENGE
The Kerry Ingredients and Flavours site at Tenbury Wells produce a range of flavoured syrups for the beverage market, fruit sauces for yoghurt and biscuit manufacturing, and ice cream sauces.

Trade effluent generated from the production and cleaning operations in these departments is received at the crude effluent sump where it is then pumped to the onsite pre-treatment plant.

WHAT WE DID
Following a trade effluent review, Kerry wanted to focus on improving the performance of their pre-treatment plant and greater balancing capacity. We were commissioned to provide an outline Functional Design Specification (FDS) which details the project requirements for the pre-treatment project.

The project involved:

  • New automatic divert system
that will be re-purposed for use as divert tank
  • New Balance Tanks
  • New blowers, airline and floor mounted fine bubble diffuser grid
  • New pumps and pumped lines
  • Chemical Storage & supply
  • New steel gantry for Rotary Drum screen
  • All civil items
  • All electrical works, control panel wiring and PLC programming
  • Final Effluent Monitoring
THE OUTCOME
Kerry Ingredients retained MSA throughout the Contractor detailed design, Installation & Commissioning, full performance testing and project sign-off. The project was awarded to Galnua, an international Wastewater contractor, headquartered in the Republic of Ireland.

The plant was commissioned in 2022 and is achieving excellent compliance levels. MSA’s design will ensure the site can continue to grow and expand whilst meeting all effluent discharge parameters and meeting its environmental obligations.
