THE CHALLENGE
The Stonegate Farmers facility in Lacock, Wiltshire is one of the largest egg packing sites in the UK, handling free-range and organic British eggs.
Our involvement with Stonegate dates back to 2020, where we undertook an initial effluent options review to gauge the best way forward for their effluent plant.
Initially, the site had no treatment with all trade effluent from processing operations discharging to the Wessex Water sewerage network. With plans to increase production over the coming years, this approach was no longer sustainable in the longer term.
Therefore, Stonegate were looking to implement a robust system to allow effluent treatment onsite and meet their future needs.
WHAT WE DID
MSA provided technical support throughout all stages of the project from concept design, all the way through to installation and commissioning.
MSA supported Stonegate throughout the duration of the project, from concept to commissioning. Our input included:
- Submission EA permit application for discharge to environment
- Full design of proposed treatment system
- Preparation of full tender specification package
- Provision of technical support and management during contractor design and installation & commissioning phases
THE OUTCOME
The new effluent treatment plant was designed to treat 450 m3/day, and 1,500 kgCOD/day.
Glanua were selected as the preferred contractor and successfully delivered the project throughout 2023/24, with the full MBR system operational in June 2024.Â
Since the plant came online, MSA have held a retained consultancy agreement and provide continued technical support relating to the ETP. This is in the form of routine health checks, detailed reviews of effluent plant data and operational troubleshooting during treatment challenges.
We have also delivered training to ETP operators across different modules, covering key monitoring parameters, fundamentals of DAF technology and a specific focus on activated sludge processes.
