THE CHALLENGE
The Thatchers site at Myrtle Farm was originally a mixed farm with some cider production when it was established in 1904. The company is still run by the Thatchers family to this day.

The site had experienced considerable growth in recent years and had undergone a major transformation with significant investment taking place including the construction. Further expansion and growth was planned in the coming years.

WHAT WE DID
In November 2020 we were appointed to undertake a focused review of the effluent treatment plant and provide an initial view on the options available. Following this review, MSA & Thatchers developed a thorough phased plant design programme to increase their effluent treatment system capacity.

A new settlement tank (9.4 m diameter) and ancillary equipment was installed to increase the
solids separation capacity and enable Thatchers to run at an increased throughput with reduced
risk of solids carryover.

The project involved:

  • New feed pumps and pumped line
  • New Glass-Lined Steel Settlement Tank
  • New RAS Pumps and Line
  • Excavation and Civil engineering works
  • New Control Panel, PLC & HMI
  • All mechanical and electrical works
  • All pipework and valves
THE OUTCOME
The addition of a second clarifier has enabled Thatcher's to operate to run at a higher MLSS concentration, increasing overall plant capacity.

The plant continues to perform well and the site now has further expansion plans in the coming years due to new product introductions and increased demand for the Thatcher’s classics.
