The Dale Farm, Dunmanbridge site in Cookstown, Northern Ireland produces a range of hard-pressed cheese products and whey protein powders. Effluent is processed onsite at the Dairy Wastewater Treatment plant. The plant employs primary and secondary treatment before it is discharged into the Lissan River.
Following major expansion plans in 2013, Dale Farm upgraded their plant to a membrane bioreactor system and MSA were not involved in this process. However, the site experienced numerous operational issues and MSA were commissioned to provide technical support to help address these challenges.
Further increases to site production in 2017 meant that the effluent plant required another upgrade. MSA were commissioned to design the new system which included a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit and additional Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) train. In addition to this in 2018, upgrades were also made to the aeration systems in the biological plants including new medium bubble diffuser systems, air distribution networks and blowers.
Northern Innovation were successful in winning both tender processes and MSA provided technical support throughout the installation and commissioning phases to ensure both projects were executed successfully. Since then, MSA have continued their close working relationship with Dale Farm under a retained consultancy agreement where we provide a range of technical support services.
